HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 cc291-2W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the local education authorities in Wales which provide free school meals (a) only for children from families in receipt of supplementary benefit or family income supplement, (b) for children who qualify under the former income eligibility limits and (c) for children who fall between these two tests.

Mr. Race

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the local education authorities in Wales which provide free school meals (a) only for children from families in receipt of supplementary benefit or family income supplement, (b) for childen who qualify under the former income eligibility limits and (c) children who fall between these two tests.

Mr. Michael Roberts

This information is not included in returns from local education authorities but from informal inquiries we understand that current policy in Clwyd, Dyfed, Gwynedd, Powys, South and West Glamorgan is to provide free meals only to children whose parents are in receipt of supplementary benefit or family income supplement. Gwent and Mid-Glamorgan provide free meals to children whose parents would have qualified under the former income eligibility limits.

Mr. Race

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the charges that each local education authority is making for school meals as from September.

Mr. Michael Roberts

This information is not included in the returns which local education authorities are required to make.
