HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c374W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether the Civil Service enjoys a maternity retention payment scheme similar to that offered to school teachers; and, if so, how it operates.

Mr. Channon

I am not aware of the details of maternity retention payment schemes which some local authorities may offer to schoolteachers. The maternity leave scheme in the Civil Service allows 13 weeks' paid leave provided the applicant has a minimum of one year's service and has undertaken to return to work.
