HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 cc461-2W
Mr. Adley

asked the Minister of Transport how many staff are employed in his Department as messengers or general assistants in reception areas; and how this number has increased or decreased in the last 12 months.

Mr. Fowler

In the joint Departments of Environment and Transport the number of staff employed on reception duties is 121. These are staff engaged on access control to the various buildings, which involves duties such as reception at the door, messenger work, car park supervision/reception and in some cases also security. The figure is the same as it was 12 months ago. It covers staff employed at a number of different buildings throughout the country, including headquarters buildings in London, regional offices, traffic area offices, research establishments and DVLC at Swansea.
