HC Deb 04 November 1980 vol 991 c539W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what study he has made of the potential market in the United States of America and other countries for plant for extracting oil from coal; if he will take steps to encourage British industry to satisfy this market; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

This Department and the Department of Energy are already aware of the large demand which will arise in due course for coal conversion plant in the United States of America and elsewhere. Where appropriate, United Kingdom firms wishing to make specific developments in plant associated with these technologies could seek support from the Department under the product and process development scheme or from the research requirements boards.
