asked the Secretary of State for Industry what progress has been made towards the establishment of a new chartered body for the engineering industry; when he expects it to come into operation; and if he will make a statement.

Officials have circulated a discussion document incorporating a draft Royal Charter and detailed comments are now being received on this. I hope it will be possible for the Privy Council to make a recommendation to Her Majesty the Queen in the next month or two.
