HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c438W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the value of expenditure on drugs supplied by private companies to the National Health Service in Scotland in the latest available year; and what percentage of the National Health Service budget it represented.

Mr. Fairgrieve

In 1979–80 the cost of drugs—including dressings and appliances—was £100 million. This represents 9.6 per cent. of the total National Health Service budget for Scotland.
