§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what statistics are available to him of the number of criminal, motoring and drinking convictions for 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979; and what percentage of reported crimes was undetected in each of these four years.
§ Mr. BrittanThe information requested for the years 1976 to 1978 is contained in the annual publications "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales", "Offences relating to motor vehicles, England and Wales", and "Offences of drunkenness, England and Wales". The 1979 statistics of serious offences recorded by the police which were cleared up were published in Home Office statistical bulletin 4/80. Copies of all these documents have been placed in the Library of the House. The other information requested for 1979 is not yet available.
