§ 44. Mr. Whiteheadasked the Minister of Transport if he will publish the latest available annual figures from the Transport and Road Research Laboratory for injury accidents in which heavy goods vehicles were involved, giving the numbers of fatal, serious and slight casualties and the accident rates in the following weight categories: 1½ to 3 tons, 3 to 4½ tons, 4½ to 6 tons, 6 to 8 tons, 8 to 10 tons and over 10 tons.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeI regret, as I told the hon. Member on 14 May, that statistics of lorry accidents by gross weight categories, or in the weight ranges requested, are not currently available. A new road accident reporting form is gradually being introduced by police forces throughout Great Britain. The new form contains details of maximum permitted gross weight of lorries. Thus, eventually this information will be available, but it is not yet possible to state how soon this information will be available on a national basis.
