HL Deb 31 March 1980 vol 407 c1252WA
The Marquess of AILESBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, and if so to what extent, their policy over Gibraltar incurs the official displeasure of the United Nations.

Lord CARRINGTON

The latest expression of opinion by the United Nations on Her Majesty's Government's policy over Gibraltar is to be found in the United Nations most recent resolution on Gibraltar, when the General Assembly adopted on 21st November 1979 a consensus text urging the British and Spanish Governments, taking due account of current circumstances, to make possible the initiation of negotiations with the object of reaching a lasting solution to the problem of Gibraltar. Talks between the British and Spanish Governments for this purpose are continuing.
