§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in view of the publication of the Flowers report, if he will set up an investigation into conditions in the provincial centres of medical education, because of the substantial difficulties in some of the newer centres, such as Southampton and Nottingham, and also in well-established centres, such as Leeds, where the expansion of student intake has had to be considerably reduced.
§ Dr. BoysonThe Flowers report is the report of an internal working party set up by the University of London to consider the particular problems facing medical education in London. I see no need for a separate inquiry into medical education outside of London where student intake has, in general, continued to expand. The UGC is, at present, conducting a series of meetings with universities, including those with medical schools, to discuss their future plans.
