§ Mr. Stuart Hollandasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent steps he has taken to ensure that there is an improvement in the treatment of patients at Rampton hospital, and that adequate mechanisms for supervision of the hospital are being maintained.
§ Sir George YoungThe Department and the hospital are constantly seeking to improve the treatment, care and supervision of patients at Rampton. There have been no recent major developments but medical and nursing, and most other, staffing ratios have been further improved in the last year and some improvements have been made in facilities. As the hon. Member will be aware, a management review team is currently reviewing the organisation, management and functioning of Rampton hospital, and the terms of reference include the general care, wellbeing and safety of patients, the nature and quality of assessment and430W treatment programmes and the arrangements in the hospital and the Department for the adequate monitoring of standards.
As the chairman, Sir John Boynton MC, has made clear, the review team hopes to report to my right hon. Friend by the summer and, in the light of this, we shall consider any further improvements which can be carried out to benefit patients.
