HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c701W
38. Mr. Henderson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with the progress toward a free trade in lamb between the United Kindom and France.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

We will not be satisfied until France has complied in full with the clear judgment of the European Court of Justice that her controls on imports of sheepmeat from the United Kingdom are illegal under the Treaty of Rome. At the Council of Ministers' meeting on 3–4 March France refused to accept interim measures which would have enabled her to pay aid to her producers from Community funds: these measures were acceptable to the other eight member States. The Commission has therefore decided to proceed with an application for an interim injuction from the European Court against the illegal French measures.
