asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons have sustained serious injuries, short of death, as a result of accidents in coal and other mines in Great Britain since 1960.

I am informed that 18,028 people have sustained serious injuries, short of death, as a result of accidents in mines in Great Britain in the years 1960 to 1979.

I am informed that 2,730 people died as a result of accidents in mines in Great Britain in the years 1960 to 1979.
