HC Deb 11 March 1980 vol 980 cc485-6W
2. Mr. Allan Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what proposals he has for reducing future defence expenditure.

33. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he has any plans for reducing defence expenditure in future years.

Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total level of defence expenditure in the current year; and what is the projected level of expenditure in the years 1980–81, bearing in mind Her Majesty's Government's com- mitment to a 3 per cent. increase in real terms.

Mr. Pym

The Government's plans for future levels of defence spending will be set out shortly in the public expenditure White Paper and the Statement on the Defence Estimates. They will show how we propose to meet the NATO aim of increases in defence spending in the region of 3 per cent. in real terms.
