§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will set out in the Official Report a table showing the distribution of day tuition fees proposed to be charged by schools either offering places for the assisted places scheme, or places he has accepted, in each tranche of £100.
§ Dr. BoysonThis information is not readily available in the form requested.
§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what is the number of places offered by schools in respect of his assisted places scheme which he has declined wholly or partly on the ground that the fees are too high; and if he will indicate his upper limit or limits in that respect;
(2) if he will set out in the Official Report in the manner of his written answer, Official Report, 4 February columns 81–2, a table showing the number of places offered by schools that he has, subject to legislation, accepted for his assisted places scheme;
(3) what actions he has taken since receiving replies to his invitations in respect of the assisted places scheme to request reports from Her Majesty's Inspectorate, particularly in respect of schools which were not formerly direct grant schools or whose principals are not members of the three main professional organisations of head teachers.
§ Dr. BoysonFormal applications for membership of the assisted places scheme have not yet been invited and no places 261W have yet been accepted or rejected. My right hon. and learned Friend has no fixed upper limit on fees in mind but will be considering the responses from schools individually.
