§ Dr. BoysonThe latest figures available from the adult literacy unit, which collects returns each year from local education authorities, show that the total number of students participating in adult literacy provision in February 1979 was in the Northern region—the counties of Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear—3,163; and in Durham 468. Statistics are not collected on a constituency basis but for the district of Bishop Auckland, the figure was 82.
