HC Deb 04 March 1980 vol 980 cc106-7W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has received any written or verbal representations from either BBC Wales or the Broadcasting Council for Wales, since 3 May 1979; and, if so, what position was expressed on the broadcasting of BBC Welsh language programmes on an IBA controlled fourth channel.

Mr. Whitelaw

My Department was sent a copy of a statement issued by the Broadcasting Council for Wales in July last year which expressed the council's disappointment that there was not to be a separate Welsh language service on the fourth channel and its belief that there were solutions to the difficulties, of which it was aware, in using for such a service a channel serving other purposes in the rest of the United Kingdom.
