§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the cost of closure of the underground bunkers for regional seats of Government, the period over which they were made redundant and the use to which the bunkers currently are put.
§ Mr. BrittanPlans to set up regional seats of government in fixed locations were abandoned in 1965. No significant expenditure was involved. Some of the structures have been retained for other home defence purposes; the rest were relinquished as surplus to Home Office requirements.
§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what he proposes to do to inform people regarding the dangers of nuclear warfare until such time as the booklet "Protect and Survive" is published; and what consultations he has had on the subject.
§ Mr. BrittanThe booklet entitled "Nuclear Weapons" published jointly by the Home Office and the Scottish Home and Health Department through Her Majesty's Stationery Office describes the effects of nuclear weapons in some detail. A copy of the booklet is in the Library of the House.
