HC Deb 04 March 1980 vol 980 c134W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider negotiating an uprating scheme for retirement and widow's pensions under the British social security scheme for such recipients living in Canada; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Prentice

Any arrangements aimed at raising United Kingdom retirement and widows' pensions paid in Canada to the rates currently payable in the United Kingdom would require additional United Kingdom expenditure of over £14 million a year. No financial provision for this can be made in view of the present need to contain public expenditure.
