HC Deb 03 March 1980 vol 980 c77W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish the number of starts and completions of wheelchair and mobility housing, respectively, in each quarter of the last two years for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Goodhart

Information in the form requested is not readily available. It has, however, been the policy of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive since March 1978 to build all single-storey dwellings to mobility standards. In addition, the Executive, where necessary, will adapt its existing dwellings for the benefit of handicapped tenants, and an increasing number of improvement grants are being paid in respect of private sector dwellings to meet the needs of the handicapped.

The voluntary housing movement in Northern Ireland has also begun to contribute to the provision of mobility housing. The development of housing and other services for the handicapped continues to receive priority in the Northern Ireland housing programme.
