§ Mr. Whiteheadasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether there has been a review of the Thames Valley computerised notebook experiment; if there has, what conclusions were reached; if the review will be made available; and as a result of the review, if the experiment will be brought to an end or if it will be extended to other areas.
§ Mr. BrittanThe experiment is being evaluated. When that is completed the Home Office will discuss with the chief constable the form a report should take, its availability, and the future of the project. At present there are no plans to repeat the experiment; but it will be for chief officers of police to decide whether they wish to install similar systems, or features of the system, in their forces.
