HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 cc129-30W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, following the example of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, who has announced the abolition of the Northern Ireland Sports Council, he intends to abolish the Sports Council in England.

Mr. Monro

As I understand it, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland is not proposing to abolish the Sports Council for Northern Ireland. His plan allows for the retention of the council in an advisory capacity with administrative, secretarial and other support being provided by the Department of Education rather than by the council's own paid staff. In any case, I have no such intentions with regard to the Sports Council.
