HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 c105W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of recent decisions by the courts overruling refusals by local authorities to license prize bingo and amusement with prizes machines, he will seek to amend the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976 and the Gaming Act 1968 so as to widen the grounds on which a local authority may refuse licences for such activities.

Mr. Whitelaw

The Royal Commission on Gambling recommended some strengthening of the powers of local authorities in relation to amusement places and I am considering its recommendations.
