asked Her Majesty's Government:

When it is expected that the fine of £10,000 imposed by the courts on British Railways in connection with the Penmanshiel tunnel disaster will be paid, to whom it will be paid, and who in fact will sign the cheque.

Lord MOWBRAY and STOURTON

The fine was paid on 4th June 1980 to the Principal Clerk of Justiciary at the High Court, Edinburgh. The cheque was signed on behalf of the Chief Accountant of the British Railways Board.
