HL Deb 19 June 1980 vol 410 cc1309-10WA
Lord MELCHETT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What other Government departments have so far been brought into discussions between the Forestry Commission and the departments of the forestry Ministers during their current review of forestry policy, and in particular whether the Treasury have been, or will be, consulted.

The MINISTER of STATE, SCOTTISH OFFICE (The Earl of Mansfield)

I regret that there is nothing I can add to the reply I gave the noble Lord on 11th June, except to confirm that the fullest consultation is taking place within Government in the course of the review.

Lord MELCHETT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will confirm that the detailed proposals to be formulated by the Forestry Commission and the Government as a result of their current review of forestry policy will be subject to amendment in the light of comments made by private and voluntary interests during whatever form of consultation they consider to be appropriate once the proposals have been formulated.

The Earl of MANSFIELD

The purpose of consultation will be to seek the views of interested organisations and those received will be taken into account before final decisions are made.
