HC Deb 19 June 1980 vol 986 cc649-50W
Mr. Colin Shepherd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been achieved so far in each region of the country in his analysis of marginal land areas.

Mr. Wiggin

Desk studies showed the need for field work in all marginal land areas of England and also in some parts of Wales. The pilot study, which is taking place in Shropshire and Powys in agreement with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales, is now well advanced. This is designed to help determine the remaining course of the survey.

Mr. Hicks

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in which areas of the country his survey of marginal land areas is now complete.

Mr. Wiggin

The Survey by the Agricultural Departments is incomplete in all marginal land areas except those in Northern Ireland.
