HC Deb 19 June 1980 vol 986 c649W
Mr. Farr

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the beef situation.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

As part of the settlement of the CAP prices package for 1980–81, which my right hon. Friend reported to the House on 2 June, we secured the continuation of the beef premium scheme for which higher target prices have been announced. There is to be a suckler cow subsidy financed by the Community and worth just over £12 per eligible cow. Intervention support prices in the United Kingdom now stand about 9 per cent. higher than last autumn.
