HC Deb 19 June 1980 vol 986 cc666-7W
Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish an estimate of the number of homes in England owned by single persons living alone and aged (a) above the retirement age and (b) above 75 years ; and how many of these homes are classified as being (i) in good structural condition and (ii) unfit.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

From the national dwelling and housing survey in England at the end of 1977, it is estimated that the number of owner-occupied households in which single persons above the retirement age were living alone was 950,000. In 380,000 of these households the person was aged 75 or over. Information on the condition of the structure of the dwellings in which these people lived is not available.

Mr. Heddle
