HC Deb 19 June 1980 vol 986 cc660-1W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the contract price for the phase 2 extension to Daisy Hill hospital, Newry ; and what is the contract programme and completion date.

Mr. Alison

£2.72 million. The original construction programme was for 57 months from November 1973. Extensions of time were granted and the contract was actually completed on 4 March 1980. Further work to the hospital's air conditioning is expected to be completed by August 1980.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what have been the principal reasons for the delay in commissioning the phase II extension to Daisy Hill hospital, Newry ; what has been the extra cost of the major remedial works ; and what is the estimated final cost of this scheme.

Mr. Alison

Inclement weather, industrial action, delay by nominated subcontractors, delays in deliveries by specialist suppliers and modifications to the air conditioning system. The approved price for these modifications is approximately £242,000, and the estimated final cost of the phase II project, including modifications, is approximately £5.0 million.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what has been the cost or the estimated cost of rectifying the deficiencies in the air conditioning system in the phase I extension to Daisy Hill hospital, Newry.

Mr. Alison

The extent of this work has yet to be decided, but a preliminary estimate is about £135,000.
