§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe dangers that could arise from the use of substandard counterfeit components are clearly considerable. The hon. Member is aware of the action we have already taken on counterfeited brake diaphragms and we will not hesitate to take appropriate measures in other cases where a road safety problem is apparent. There is fairly widespread evidence of the counterfeiting of components, including in some cases the falsification of European approval marks, but so far the only evidence we have of a road safety problem is in the brake diaphragm case.
