§ Mr. Jim Lester[pursuant to his reply, 12 June 1980 c. 234–35]: The statistics, based on the Standard Industrial Classification 1968, do not include construction in manufacturing industry. At February 1980. the latest date for which information is available provisional estimates of the numbers of people employed in Great Britain in manufacturing and construction were 6,823,000 and 1,225,000 respectively. The proportion of employment in the two industries combined accounted for by the construction industry is 15.2 per cent.
