§ 40. Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on progress in monitoring the performance indicators of water authorities.
§ Mr. KingAnnual publication of performance indicators commenced in the 1978–79 annual reports of the water authorities and the National Water Council. Their purpose is to help monitor efficiency and levels of service in different authorities.
With effect from April 1981, I intend to introduce a system of performance 752W aims. Discussions on a national framework for setting these aims for individual authorities are now under way. Progress towards these targets will be monitored and published annually.
