asked the Secretary of State for Trade when he expects to refer the Southern water authority to the Monopolies Commission.

I cannot say at this stage when the Southern water authority will be referred; but, as. I have already stated, it is my right hon. Friend's intention to refer a number of water authorities to the Commission in due course. The first authority to be referred will be Severn-Trent, as I announced on 29 April.
