HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 c582W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the Government's policy on the upgrading in importance of industrial archaeology as part of the national heritage.

Mr. Monro

The treatment of industrial archaeology is similar to that of the rest of our archaelogical heritage. Of the total resources for archaeology, the share devoted to industrial archaeology varies from year to year with changing priorities. There is no prospect of any general increase in funds for archaeology. The trustees of the new national heritage memorial fund will be able if they wish to assist with the acquisition and preservation of historic monuments.
