HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 cc556-7W
Miss Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how it is planned that health authorities will be able to meet the 1980–81 price rises above the 14 per cent. included in the revenue cash limits for that year.

Dr. Vaughan

If prices increase above the level assumed within the 1980–81 revenue cash limits, health authorities will have to meet any additional costs from within the overall cash limits allocated to them for that year through greater efficiency in the provision of services.

Miss Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will state in tabular form by regional health authority the estimated cash difference between the 14 per cent. Government cash limit on funding of pay awards and the 18⅛ per cent. award recommended by the Doctors' and Dentists' Review Body which has been accepted by the Government.

Dr. Vaughan

No. Regional health authorities are free to determine how to allocate their resources within their overall cash limits. There are no earmarked sums for pay increases for particular groups of staff.
