§ Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for Trade how many applications have been made to Her Majesty's Government by United Kingdom" manufacturers for anti-dumping measures; if he will indicate which industries and manufacturers, and how many and which had the support of Her Majesty's Government in their applications to the Commission of the European Economic Community.
§ Mr. ParkinsonUnited Kingdom industry receives the full support of my Department in seeking remedies in Brussels for all well-founded complaints of dumped or subsidised imports.
Since the European Commission assumed responsibility for taking antidumping action in July 1977, there have been 52 formal applications for such action from Community industry (excluding iron and steel cases arising out of the Community's anti-crisis measures) and so far 38 of these have been opened for investigation. There was a United Kingdom industry interest in 27 of these investigations.
Details were given in the Department's evidence to the Select Committee on Industry and Trade, published with its minutes of evidence for 5 March 1980. (Two new investigations concerning imports of ammonium nitrate fertilizer and polyester filament yarn, both from the USA, have been opened since then.)
It would be a breach of commercial confidence for me to publish the names of the individual United Kingdom companies involved.
