§ 29. Mr. Chapmanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what dates and by how much the BBC television licence fee has been increased in the last 10 years.
§ Mr. BrittanThe following table sets out the dates and amounts of television licence fee increases since 1st January 1969:
Monochrome £ Colour £ 1 January 1969 5 to 6 10 to 11 1 July 1971 6 to 7 11 to 12 1 April 1975 7 to 8 12 to 18 30 July 1977 8 to 9 18 to 21 25 November 1978 9 to 10 21 to 25 24 November 1979 10 to 12 25 to 34 However, the revenue received by the BBC in the current financial year will be more than five times as much as that received in 1969–70, mainly because of the extent of the change over from monochrome to colour licences in the period.
