HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 cc791-2W
30. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on how many occasions he has received letters about the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 from magistrates complaining that their powers under the Act are inadequate.

Mr. Brittan

I regret that the information requested is not readily available, and could be provided only at disproportionate cost. Magistrates make their views known to my right hon. Friend not only in letters, but also through the personal contact which my right, hon. Friend and my colleagues have with individuals and organisations. The Magistrates' Association, in particular, conveys to the Government the views of its members on a wide range of matters relating to the powers of the magistrates' courts.
