§ Mr. Kenneth Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps to promote an increase of recruitment into the police cadet scheme.
§ Mr. BrittanIt is for each police authority to decide how many cadets it needs and can afford, to supplement direct recruitment of police officers. A police advisory board working party is reviewing the cadet system and my right hon. Friend thinks it would be best not to consider issuing any advice about cadets to police authorities until the working party's report has been completed.
