HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 cc819-20W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been drawn to the court case involving Mr. Hans Dickenson, a German citizen, who entered Great Britain for a holiday, obtained £30 a week from social security to enable him to hire a car to tour Great Britain on holiday and that for stealing petrol the court has recommended his deportation; and when he expects to carry out the court's recommendation.

Mr. Raison

My right hon. Friend has received the court's recommendation, but has not yet reached a decision on it. Under the Immigration Act 1971 a deportation order cannot be made until the time for bringing an appeal against the recommendation has expired or any appeal has been heard.
