Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the weekly slaughter total of live pigs in the Grampian region for the six months to 30 June 1980; what percentage of the slaughtered pigs was sold to livestock suppliers in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

These figures are approximate because not all data are collected on a weekly basis. Information on the movement of pigs through livestock suppliers is not collected centrally.

I welcome the recent conclusion of the national bacon contract between FMC and its suppliers in Scotland, both as an incentive for quality production and as a demonstration of commercial confidence in the future of the pig industry.
