HC Deb 28 July 1980 vol 989 c465W
Mr. Leighton

asked the Prime Minister if she is satisfied that when Welsh people move in search of work there will be adequate housing available for them in the new areas.

The Prime Minister

We are helping those who need to move for employment reasons through a range of measures in the Housing Bill, including: the introduction of shorthold; the right for public sector tenants to sublet and to take in lodgers; measures to make it easier for owner-occupiers to let part of their homes; a provision to ensure that local authorities can make short-term accommodation available for up to a year to those moving into their areas for employment reasons; a new power for the Government to make a financial contribution to mobility schemes; the right for public sector tenants to buy their homes; measures which will help other first-time buyers, such as shared ownership, improvement for sale, and powers for local authorities to guarantee building society mortgages for the purchase of cheaper properties.
