asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to revise the present English county boundaries.

Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972 the Local Government Boundary Commission will initiate a general review of county boundaries in 1984.

The commission has made it clear that, in advance of the general review, it will consider changes in county boundaries only in exceptional circumstances. I am not aware of any plans for changes other than minor adjustments.
