HC Deb 25 July 1980 vol 989 cc426-7W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many tonnes of radioactive waste have been discharged into British territorial waters from the French processing plant at Cap de L'Hague for each of the past seven years; and how many curies this represents in each case.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

I have been asked to reply:

No radioactive waste from the Cap de L'Hague plant is discharged into our territorial waters. Responsibility for monitoring such discharge rests with the French Government. However, over the years our own monitoring programme in the English Channel and southern North Sea has confirmed that levels of activity originating from the plant are of negligible radiological significance.
