The MINISTER of STATE, DEPARTMENT of EMPLOYMENT (The Earl of Gowrie)I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that it is not possible to provide an analysis of the current stock of places on Work Experience on Employers' Premises by standard indus 657WA trial classification. The table below shows the proportionate industrial distribution of such places approved in the private sector during the programme's first two years of operation from April 1978 to March 1980.

What percentage of those engaged in work experience on employers' premises under the Youth Opportunities Programme (YOP) progressed into permanent employment within three months of completing their work experience, between January 1977 and June 1980; whether this figure can also be shown for quarterly, or other convenient, periods during that time; and how it compares with those for progress into permanent employment under other component elements of YOP.

A sample of young people leaving work experience schemes is surveyed quarterly. For the four types of work experience, the following table shows the percentages of young people who were in employment at the time of the survey, that is on average three to six months after leaving the programme.
