HC Deb 22 July 1980 vol 989 c214W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the current total net cost to the Government, after making allowance for receipts from fees, of monitoring, assessing and instituting all aspects of drug safety.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The net cost to the Government of implementing the provisions of the Medicines Act 1968 for the year ending on 31 August 1979 was £809,600. Departmental records are not maintained in such a way as to enable the cost of other aspects of drug safety to be readily identified.
