Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many civil jury trials have taken place in Scotland in sheriff courts and the Court of Session, respectively, in each of the last five years.

The figures for the Court of Session are as follows:

1979	…	…	8

Figures for sheriff courts are not held centrally, and I regret that they could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
