§ Mr. Spriggsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the measures which are taken to protect the public against taking too high a percentage of fluoride into the body as a result of fluoride-treated toothpaste being sold and used in areas where artificially fluoridated treated public water supplies already exist.
§ Sir George YoungNo ill-effects on health have been reported from this cause and I am not aware that any are likely to arise. The fluoride content of toothpaste in controlled under part II of schedule 2 to the Cosmetic Products Regulations 1978 (S.I. 1978 No. 1354) and I understand that toothpaste manufacturers in this country produce toothpaste with considerably lower levels of fluoride than these regulations permit.
