HC Deb 07 July 1980 vol 988 cc70-1W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the system of paying a tax-free £36 a day attendance allowance in lieu of a taxed wage or salary, as now operating for Members of the House of Lords, would be permissible on a similar basis to other groups of workers.

Mr. Peter Rees

Any holder of an unpaid office or employment is entitled to receive tax-free the reasonable reimbursement of expenses incurred by him in connection with the duties of his office or employment, in the same way as Members of the House of Lords.
