HC Deb 07 July 1980 vol 988 c26W
Mr. George Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from chief constables regarding the marketing of devices to detect police radar signals.

Mr. Raison

None.

Mr. George Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions have been brought, and how many convictions there have been, of persons for using devices for detecting police radar signals.

Mr. Raison

We are aware of only one such prosecution since 1974, which was unsuccessful. One company which advertised such devices has, however, been convicted of inciting persons to commit offences under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts by using unlicensed equipment for wireless telegraphy, and a further similar case has yet to be dealt with by the courts.
